Old Things New has this DIY project for taking vintage jewelry and giving it new life in the form of a beautiful bookmark. With all the cool tech gadgets available for reading these days, do people still use bookmarks? I do! I can't help it. I just love the feel of a real book!
I'm excited about this project because I have some old costume jewelry that was passed down to me from my grandmother when she passed away a few years ago. Unfortunately, it's not my style so I haven't found a good use for any of it. Maybe this will do the trick?

Recipes With Ruche
Exciting news, readers! If any of you are familiar with a website called Ruche, you'll probably dig this news as much as I do. (Side note: if you're not familiar with Ruche, it's like Anthropologie, but you don't have to sell a kidney to come away with something nice.)
Anyhoo... they recently put together a dessert cookbook for the holidays and they selected my blog for inclusion! Specifically, they referenced a recipe that I shared with you last year for a delicious, gluten-free almond orange cake. If you love sweets, take a peek below. There are tons of fabulous recipes to flip through!

Yusuke Oono's 360° Storybooks
Japanese artist Yusuke Oono creates storybooks that read frame by frame like a regular book, but also transform into 360° sculptures. It's amazing what can be done with simply a few sheets of paper and a pair of scissors, isn't it?

A Novel Idea
London-based Levitate Architects came up with one of the most brilliant ideas I've ever seen for storing books - they incorporated them into a staircase! (hat tip: Neatorama)
I love this idea, though I don't think I own enough books to fill all the spaces. I guess this offers a great excuse to get out there and read more!
And on that note, I'm off to enjoy what promises to be a great Memorial Weekend, filled with reading, sunshine and good company. Cheers!

Happy "Very Hungry Caterpillar" Day!
Apparently today is a day of celebration over the existence of the popular children's book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar! The book has a special place in my heart so it's neat to see it loved so many years after it's original publication. I can remember reading it as a little girl and loving the pop-ups and all the colorful images. While it wasn't exactly Brown Bear, Brown Bear, it did the trick whenever I needed something to help me sleep.
I'm super excited to hear that the author, Eric Carle, is working on a new book entitled The Artist Who Painted a Blue Horse. Sounds intriguing!

Science Fiction Nerds Rejoice!
Artist and historian Ward Shelley was actually brave enough to attempt this: a complete history of science fiction etched out in a colorful flow chart. It spans over 2,500 years and includes such monumental movements as The Enlightenment, the birth of the Gothic novel and the rise of the popular sci-fi cult film, Star Wars. Kudos to him for the commitment to this thing. It's a beautiful, little monster.

When I Grow Up
Weird Al Yankovic just published his first children's book. It's actually quite charming and clever.

Putting Pen To Paper
Ever wonder how some of today's best-selling authors conceptualize their stories? Well, I do! [insert nerdy laugh here]
Here's a fun look inside the mind of famed Harry Potter author, J.K. Rowling, and her approach to story development. We may live in a digital age, but good, old fashioned pen and paper never goes out of style!
